Unfortunately, few details were available on the Samsung SL202 at press time. We do know that the SL202 features a 10.2 megapixel image sensor behind a Samsung-branded 3x optical zoom lens with 6.2 to 18.6mm actual focal length range, and a maximum aperture that varies from f/2.8 to f/5.2 across the zoom range. There's no optical viewfinder, with images instead being framed on the Samsung SL202's 2.7" LCD display. There's also no true mechanical image stabilization, with the SL202 instead opting for "Digital Image Stabilization" - essentially the ability to raise the ISO sensitivity (and along with it, the noise levels) so as to obtain a faster shutter speed. The Samsung SL202 also has a built-in flash strobe and a 30 frames-per-second VGA Motion JPEG movie mode. Power comes from a proprietary Lithium Ion rechargeable battery.
Other features of the Samsung SL202 include autoexposure / autofocus-linked face detection capable of recognizing up to nine faces in a scene, blink detection, smile detection, a "Smart Auto" mode that automatically chooses one of eleven scene modes, "Smart Album" function in playback mode, and a "Beauty Shot" mode which enhances skin tones. The Samsung SL202 ships from March 2009, and expected pricing is around $150.
