Unfortunately, few details were available on the Samsung SL30 at press time. We do know that the SL30 features a 10.2 megapixel image sensor behind a Samsung-branded 3x optical zoom lens with 6.3 to 18.9mm actual focal length range. There's no optical viewfinder, with images instead being framed on the Samsung SL30's 2.5" LCD display. There's also no true mechanical image stabilization, with the SL30 instead opting for "Digital Image Stabilization" - essentially the ability to raise the ISO sensitivity (and along with it, the noise levels) so as to obtain a faster shutter speed. The Samsung SL30 also has a built-in flash strobe and a VGA Motion JPEG movie mode. Power comes from two AA batteries, with alkaline disposables in the product bundle.
Other features of the Samsung SL30 include autoexposure / autofocus-linked face detection capable of recognizing up to nine faces in a scene, and a "Beauty Shot" mode which enhances skin tones. The Samsung SL30 ships from March 2009, and expected pricing is around $100.
