Olympus PEN-F Flash

The PEN-F comes bundled with the Olympus FL-LM3 compact flash unit which is capable of bounce/swivel. It features a Guide Number (GN) of 9 meters at ISO 100 and derives its power from the camera body.

We didn't test flash coverage or exposure of our Indoor Portrait scene since that is lens dependent and the PEN-F does not ship with a kit lens. We did however check Olympus' flash range claim for the bundled flash below.

Manufacturer Specified Flash Test. The Olympus FL-LM3 bundled flash has a Guide Number (GN) of 9 meters at ISO 100. That works out to about 7.5 feet at f/5.6 and ISO 200. In the shot above, the FL-LM3 did not quite perform to Olympus' GN spec in terms of range, producing a somewhat dim exposure (about 0.5 EV underexposed) at the calculated distance, aperture and ISO. You can of course use a more powerful flash unit if you find the bundled unit is not powerful enough for your needs.
