Awesome sharpness, amazingly rectilinear for a superwideWish it were faster
Got this yesterday for my birthday. My daughter was running around shooting all the family with my M3. Focus was nailed precisely every time, exposure was always right on, and color was beautiful. I assumed she was shooting at 22mm, because all these people pictures looked like portraits at 35 equivalent 35-50mm lenses. But no, she shot everything at 11mm. Every shot was completely rectilinear! I must have 50 lenses, from an ancient Summitar to the latest superspeed TTartisan. I have never seen performance like this!

This lens alone is reason enough to have an eos M camera -

Like "benherrman said", GET this lens. I should have bought this one 3 years ago. Would have saved me a lot of cash, hopping around olympus (great 9-18 but nightmarish menus) and Fuji (great 15-45 but bad ergonomics XT20 and XT100). YMMV. I Eeven swapped my M50 for a second M5 it works so great on this body with direct access to the dials.

Exceptionally small, solid construction. Superb optical clarity, and price.F4 - 5.6 (wish it was a bit lower like 3.5-4.5 - but then it would obviously cost more. Doesn't come with a lens hood.
This was the 2nd EF-M lens that I purchased once I elected to adopt the Canon EOS-M system a few years ago. I enjoyed the optical qualities of the EF-M 18-55 and I believed that for a kit lens, it really surpassed my expectations. When I saw the 11-22 available for only $349 (USD) at the time, I immediately pulled the trigger.

But I was not prepared for the absolutely superb optical qualities that this lens exhibits - so much so, that it becomes easy to just leave this lens on the camera as an everyday optic. And when you think about it, we spend over 90% of our shooting anywhere from wide angle to 50 MM anyway - it was just a no-brainer.
I was really surprised however, to see the radical superiority of this lens (read "clarity" here) when you compare the results between the 11-22 and the EF-M 18-55 kit lens. I had mentioned earlier that I felt the 18-55 was an outstanding kit lens - well constructed, smooth to operate, and the optical results were really nice. But hands down, this 11-22 bests it in the optical clarity department - almost like a good prime. I'd have to say this 11-22 is a must-have for landscape photographers, or for those who want to take excellent interior architectural shots. This is such a great lens that I may invest in a 2nd copy of this lens - it's that good.
So if you're into the EOS-M system, this is a "must-have" lens and it definitely won't break the bank. You will not be disappointed and you'll be wondering why you held off this long to get this lens. -
Size, weight, image quality, ISOnly available in certain parts of the world
This was my third EF-M lens and it is now the lens that stays attached to my EOS M most of the time. The focal range is excellent for general photography, as is the image quality. I can make 30" x 20" prints from this lens and the IQ is fine.

Image stabilisation is less necessary on wide angle lenses, but the IS on the 11-22mm is effective and surprisingly useful. I miss IS when I go back to the EF-M 22mm f/2.
My only real gripe concerning this lens is the difficulty I had buying it. Despite buying my EOS M and other EF-M lenses in Thailand, where I live, Canon (in their infinite wisdom) decided that they wouldn't sell the 11-22mm in Thailand. I therefore had to cross an international border and drive to Malaysia to make my purchase.
This situation also exists in other parts of the world, with Americans having to buy the lens from Canadian outlets.
I am still very pleased with the EOS M system and this lens was the icing on the cake. It's a beauty. See more here:
