(From Samsung lens literature) Samsung 18-200mm multi-purpose Long Zoom Lens. This model features modes which are optimized for creating high-quality movie content with a single lens. The new long zoom lens also has a fast, silent Auto-Focus due to Samsung's use of Voice Coil Motor (VCM) technology, so users can capture important events without recording the sound of the camera's AF. The lens also features Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) to cancel out any hand movement and deliver crisp, clear images, even when a subject is far away. Compatible with Samsung's unique i-Function system, which helps users create powerful effects easily through quick and convenient controls.

    decent optics
defective mechanics, poor battery life, terrible warranty from samsung

I was very disappointed in this lens , not in the optics but in the mechanics. When OIS was enabled a high pitched tone was emitted from the lens in the 10,000 - 11,000 hz (hertz) range, at about 10 dB(decibels), it was very audible and also could be recorded on the cameras microphones , in this case a samsung nx200. Further testing on other lenses (of the same) at the store revealed the same defect.

I don't know if this is due to the defect of this lens , probably not, but it really eats into your battery life. You will only get about 1/3 of the 330 expected shots with this lens.

Contacting samsung about the problem was also disappointing , samsung considers a lens an accessory and no warranty is respected, samsung would not replace , or repair the unit. Returning the unit to the store was my only option.

    good range, very quiet focus
    no motered zoom, heavy

at the extremes the image begins to degrade. some may not notice; subtle differences showed up against my older MD ROKKOR X Minolta lens mounted to the NX100. still lots more testing to do but its a keeper.
