(From Tamron lens literature) This extended-range zoom offers true telephoto capability ideal for a variety of applications including sports and wildlife shooting. The lens also features the capability to provide beautifully blurred background to highlight the main subject in portraiture, or "compression effects" that make the most of the telephoto lens.

    Extremely versatile, Great macro
Focus can hunt at extreme telephoto

This is a very useful lens for a great price. The autofocus is a bit noisy, and it can hunt at extreme telephoto, but it really is quite dependable and the image quality is fine.

I'm a newbee to digital SLR's, and have a Pentax ist DL that came with the Pentax 18-55 kit lens. I got a deal on this Tamron lens off of Ebay, and after going back and forth between it and the kit lens, I prefer to keep this Tamron lens on the camera. Besides it's tele capabilities, I'm getting better image quality than the Pentax kit lens.
