Amongst the recent winners of the International Loupe Awards, we were struck by this photo showing a Leopard Seal about to gobble up a penguin in Antarctica.

The stunning image by underwater photographer Amos Nachoum captured fifth place in the Science and Nature category of the awards. (Yes, we think it should've finished higher too!)

Nachoum shot the photo in Port Lockroy, on the Antarctic Peninsula, as part of a documentary series about how Leopard Seals hunt.

Along with being a great shot in its own right, the image seems the perfect companion to this video we posted recently showing a National Geographic photographer's unbelievable encounter with a Leopard Seal. It also dovetails nicely with our recent story about documentary photographers who used cameras disguised as penguins (Penguin-cams!) to shoot a documentary in Antarctica.
