We've met quite a few camera collectors in our day but few seem as passionate about their hobby as the subject of this short documentary clip titled, simply, "The Collector."

In the lovingly shot black-and-white video -- which was captured with a Nikon D800 and a bevy of Nikkor prime lenses -- the collector, who is never named, describes what has driven him to create a collection of more than 1,000 cameras from just one model purchased in South Africa back in 1972.

"You put in a lot of effort to build up something. Passion, love. It's close to you," he says. "And then you don't want to let go. It's my hobby, it's my passion."

For the collector, cameras are part of the world's DNA. "The whole history of photography is quite important for the human being. It's part of the human being," he says.

The video was shot in Capetown, South Africa by Green Renaissance at the collector's home, which is not open to the public.
