Fujifilm has today unveiled two new digital cameras that do what your smartphone can't, then neatly hand it the results for instant photo sharing. The Fuji S8400W packs in a super-powerful optical zoom lens that reaches clear into next week, while the rugged Fuji XP200 is part tank and part submarine, ready to go anywhere you do without complaint. Both are slated to arrive in the US market in May 2013, just in time to spend your income tax refunds.

The Fuji S8400W boasts a powerful 44x optical zoom lens.

When you consider the selection of lenses an SLR would need to match the Fujifilm S8400W's whopping 44x optical zoom lens, the size advantage is clear. The Fuji S8400W, then, is a camera for somebody who wants to travel light, but doesn't want to risk missing the shot because they had to frame with their feet. It also packs faster-than-average autofocus according to its manufacturer, along with fully manual controls, and built-in wireless networking connectivity.

The Fuji FinePix S8400 will be available in the US market from May 2013, priced at US$350 or thereabouts. More details in our Fuji S8400 preview.

The aggressively-styled Fuji XP200 is waterproof down to 50 feet.

And then there's the Fujifilm XP200. Ever considered what your current digital camera says about you? If it's the typical silver or black box with a lens and a couple of buttons, not much, probably. With ultra-aggressive styling, the 16 megapixel Fujifilm FinePix XP200 has no such problem. It positively screams that you're somebody who isn't afraid to get outdoors and live life -- and it'll be right there with you. It's waterproof to 50 feet (17 feet deeper than its predecessor, the XP170), shockproof to 6.6 feet, freezeproof to 14°F, and dustproof to boot. Swift burst shooting helps the XP200 keep up with your lifestyle and your subjects. The XP200 also sports built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking connectivity, letting you quickly get your pictures out of the camera and onto the web via your smartphone, so friends, family, and fans can keep up with you.

Available from May 2013, the Fuji XP200 is priced at around US$300. Four colors will be available: black, yellow, blue, or red. More details in our Fuji XP200 preview.
