Ultra wide-angle lenses often sport strongly curved front lens elements, due to which it is impossible to attach regular screw-in filters. This is also true for Samyang's 14mm f/2.8 lens, for which the company that is otherwise known as Rokinon or Bower in the US has now announced a dedicated filter holder to circumvent the problem.

The SFH-14 filter holder for the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 lens takes rectangular filter plates with a size of 161 x 139 x 3 mm, two of which it can take up simultaneously. Thanks to its rotating function, graduated filters can be used both horizontally and vertically. The filters for the SFH-14 will be manufacturer by Cokin, with three models announced so far:

  • 154 ND8: an ND8 neutral density filter
  • 121M ND4: a split ND4 neutral density
  • 123S: a split blue filter

So far, the anouncement seems to be only for the European market, as the retail prices for the SFH-14 and the filters are quoted in Euro. The SFH-14 filter adapter for the 14mm f/2.8 lens will be available for €32 (US$44), while the Cokin filters will retail for €63 for the 154 ND8 and €68 for the two other models. More information is available at Samyang Europe.
