Travelling the world is a dream many of us share, but only few ever see come true. What keeps most of us from simply dropping everything and setting out on a journey across the globe, besides job and family commitments, is the sheer lack of financial resources to do so. But even if our holiday budgets are already exhausted, there's still an easy way to get to see other places. Thanks to the internet and travelers who take their cameras with them, we can catch a glimpse at exotic locations comfortably from our computers – free of charge.

One of the most recent travel videos takes us to Doha, the capital of Qatar. Qatar is a small kingdom located on a peninsula in the Persian Gulf, which itself is located on the larger Arabian Peninsula. Besides being an oil and gas exporting nation, Qatar has recently come to fame for winning the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But the country has in fact much more to offer, as this beautiful hyperlapse video by photographer Michael Shainblum goes to show.

In his video, Shainblum takes us on a journey not only through the country's capital and surrounding shores and sand dunes, but also on a journey through the various historic layers that make up Doha. From the old streets and markets of the historic part of the city to the modern skyscrapers made of glass and steel, we get to see a city that combines past and future, tradition and modernization, as well as aspects of both eastern and western cultures.

Over at 500px ISO, Shainblum shares a couple of insights into how the video was made. More of his work can be seen in his 500px portfolio and on Vimeo.
