Bored with your DSLR? Samsung’s *giving away* NX30s at “#DitchTheDSLR” event in NYC

You have your standard advertising campaigns on TV, the web and in print, and then there's Samsung's marketing campaigns, which can sometimes be on the more unique side. In the past, Samsung's gone all out to market their products, particularly their mobile devices, with everything from a flash mob in Times Square and performance at Radio City Music Hall for the Galaxy S4 launch to a huge hip-hop concert inside a Beverly Hills country club mansion for an MP3-player/cellphone.

Determined not to be out-done by the Mobile division, Samsung's camera group is going all out next week with the launch of a big "Ditch The DSLR" marketing campaign and a very unique event in New York City. Have you been thinking about something smaller and lighter than your current DSLR kit? Samsung is betting big that lots of people feel that way, and want to help them along on their switch to mirrorless. 

If you happen to be in the New York City area -- Times Square between 42nd and 43rd Streets to be exact -- on Wednesday, June 4th from 12 pm to 6 pm ET, Samsung will give you a hands-on test drive with their latest cameras, with a variety of photographic activities like slot car racing, selfies with the NX Mini, and Time Square panoramas. Samsung's sponsored Imagelogger photographers will also be on-hand providing their tips, tricks and experience with Samsung cameras. 

Here's the clincher though: Bring in your old DSLR and you can trade it in for a free Samsung NX30. Yes, free! A big marketing event is one thing, but to straight up give away $1000 cameras to those willing to give up their DSLRs is pretty amazing. Details are scarce, however, as the Samsung press release only gives vague details that "first consumers" will receive an NX30 if they trade-in their DSLR. When pressed for a more concrete number, Samsung would only say a "sizable amount of NX30s" would be available for the attendees. Attendees can also get a $50 coupon on the Samsung NX Mini for those pledging to ditch their DSLR.

So, are you feeling ready to ditch your big DSLR? (Or ditch one you just bought really cheap at a thrift store? ;-) Make plans to be at Times Square next Wednesday and take Samsung up on their offer! You may want to get there early, we expect there'll be a line.
