If you're a fan of Instagram, then you'll most certainly love onOne's Perfect Effects 8, which allows you to add effects and filters similar to those of the popular smartphone app to your photos -- and more. Right now, onOne is running a promotional deal that gets you Perfect Effects 8 for free, in exchange for your subscription to the Fotocommunity newsletter.

Considering that the regular retail price of Perfect Effects 8 is US$99.95 for the full version and US$69.95 for the update, that's a pretty sweet deal. After all, if you find you don't like the software, you can always uninstall it, and if you don't care for the newsletter, you can always cancel your subscription. So, what exactly can you do with onOne Perfect Effects 8?

The software, which can run either as a stand-alone application or as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and Apple Aperture, comes with a huge database of effect filter presets that let you do all kinds of optical enhancements to your photos. Unlike Instagram, the tool isn't limited to adding a single effect to your photograph, but rather lets you edit different parts of a picture with different effects to achieve the intended look. In addition, its filter presets are also adjustable and customizable, and you can even save your own custom presets.

Perfect Effects 8 is part of the larger Perfect Photo Suite 8.5, which additionally contains the tools Enhance, Portrait, Resize, B&W, Browse, Layers and Mask. Of these only Perfect Effects, Perfect Mask and Perfect Resize are available as individual applications. The Perfect Photo Suite 8.5 is available in three editions as a standalone software, a Lightroom and Aperture plug-in or a plug-in with Photoshop integration, which are available from US$79.95 for the standalone version.

So if you decide to download Perfect Effects 8 for free (for which we really see no reason why you shouldn't) and find that you like it, you can get a whole lot more photo editing power by purchasing the full Perfect Photo Suite 8.5.
