Not for chimps: The Leica M Edition 60 forgoes one key feature that’s on almost every digicam

As we come within sight of the finish line on our coverage of camera announcements at the 2014 Photokina tradeshow, we reach the single product that stands out as probably the most unique -- and yet divisive -- of the bunch. The Leica M Edition 60 will only be sold in extremely limited quantities, but that isn't stopping everyone from talking about it.
The reason, of course, is that it forgoes a feature present on the overwhelming majority of digital cameras made within the last decade: Although there's a rangefinder-style viewfinder, there's no LCD monitor. With that one change, this camera suddenly presents a more pared-down, film-like shooting experience. It's a gutsy move, for sure, but one Leica clearly believes has its attractions, because it's planning to sell 600 of these limited-edition cameras, and while the cost is yet to be revealed, it's pretty clear that they're not going to be gifted with an impulse-buy pricetag.
