It’s an ongoing tradition at DigitalRev to put in the hands of a professional photographer the crappiest camera they can find. The goal? To see just how professional the resulting images can be when shooting with the likes of a LEGO, Barbie and other toy cameras.

For this Cheap Camera Challenge, Kai takes away the 5DMIII and 24–70mm f/2.8 of fashion photographer Lara Jade and hands her the epitome of a toy camera. While she was stripped of her full frame camera and L-series lens Jade was allowed to keep her professional model and extravagant wardrobe. But even a solid wardrobe and experienced model didn't make the .3-megapixel camera easy to work with.

If you’ve seen a Cheap Camera Challenge though, you’ll know that even with the worst of cameras, almost every photographer comes out with some quality images. Jade is no different, ending up with a handful of incredible images considering the circumstances.

I can’t help but to agree with Kai when he succinctly summarizes Jade’s time behind the toy camera:

‘Her directions are clear and incredibly detailed. Professional models posed well, of course, but pro photographers know how to bring out the best in models.’

The video comes in at 21-minutes, so it’s by no means a quick watch. But it’s not every day you get to see one of the top fashion photographers work with a toy your two year old might’ve gotten for Christmas a few days ago.
