Alongside Olympus’s barrage of new products, they’ve also announced upgraded support for their older products as well. In particular, they’ve announced firmware version 3.0 for their OM-D E-M1 camera.

Set to be released later this month, the focal point of this firmware update is to boost the framerate of the camera up to 9 frames per second in continuous AF mode, a substantial increase over the previous 6.5 frames per second. This increase in performance is directly attributed to an enhanced algorithm that drives the camera’s 37-point phase-detection autofocus.

The firmware update also includes added movie functionality when paired with the Olympus Image Share app for iOS and Android. Specifically, the app now lets users select Movie as a shooting mode while using the live view screen on their smartphone.
