It might not be an official app, and it may not last long, but Uploader for Instagram is the first app for OSX that allows you to upload your photographs through your computer, rather than your mobile device.

Built by Anobot LLC, the app is able to get around Instagram’s API through the clever reverse-engineering of it, which enables the uploads through desktop machines.

Of course, this probably isn’t going to go over too well with the Instagram team, but the developer behind the app says it will be difficult for Facebook/Instagram to deny access due to a clever system which randomizes and mimics the uploads to look as though they’re coming from a mobile device.

In addition to uploading, Uploader for Instagram includes 47 photo effects and also supports original resolution and ratio, meaning there’s no need to crop images that aren’t 1x1 in ratio.

There’s no telling how long this app will last, but if you’re willing to take the risk you can pick it up for $4.99 in the Mac App Store.
