Two years ago, Samsung started its #DitchTheDSLR movement, a campaign that gave photographers the chance to swap out their old, clunky DSLR for a more modern Samsung mirrorless camera.

Since then, two #DitchTheDSLR events have taken place, one in New York City in June of 2013 and one in Hollywood in October of 2014. Now, photographers in the Pacific North-West will get the chance to rid themselves of their DSLRs.

At the inaugural PIX Photo Expo and Conference in Seattle, Washington on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 Samsung will allow photographers to turn in their DSLR camera for the highly-praised Samsung NX500, a value of $799.

Trades will start at 11 a.m. and continue until supplies are out. Considering over 1,000 DSLRs have already been ditched in past events, it’s likely there will be 500 or so NX500 cameras up for grab.

Additionally, Samsung is bringing in a number of award-winning Samsung Imageloggers, who will be taking part in a number of panels and presentations wherein they’ll talk about their experiences with Samsung’s mirrorless system.

Samsung executives Jay Kelbley, Ron Gazzola and Jose Hernandez show off the mountain of DSLRs discarded at last summer's #DitchTheDSLR event in New York's Times Square.

Below is a schedule of the presentations:

  • Tuesday, October 6: The Evolution of News Photography, with Reuters Photographer Jonathan Alcorn
  • Wednesday, October 7: Using Photography to Drive Change, with Social Marketer CC Chapman
  • Wednesday, October 7: Getting the Right Shot, with celebrity photographer Brian Ach

For photographers who decide to ditch their DSLR, Samsung is also offering a chance to participate in local photo walks led by Imageloggers Ibarionex Perello and Rinzi Ruiz or attend workshops by Laura Winslow, Matt Kumasaka or Wasim Muklashy.
