Alongside Apples new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus came a plethora of new features, one being a hybrid video/photo mode called Live Photos.

As explained on stage during Apple’s keynote, Live Photos is a feature that automatically captures both a full-resolution photo as well as a few seconds of video before and after each photo. The result is a still image that can also show the few fragile moments that led up to and followed the decisive moment.

Apple isn’t the first to implement such a feature (Hello HTC Zoe). But it’s hard to think the hybrid-capture won’t have its best chance of survival with Apple’s ubiquity.

Unfortunately, as with any sort of hybrid format, there is no easy way to manage or export the files, with the exception of a few supported platforms. To help with that is a new app called Live GIF.

Rather than relying on the support of a few social networks, Live GIF lets you easily turn your photo/video hybrid into an animated GIF or video to share with the world across social media.

The process is simple. Open Live GIF, select the Live Photo you want to convert, choose whether you want it as a GIF or video file, and you’re done. Saving and sharing is done via iOS’ baked-in share sheet.

To check out the app, head on over to the iOS App Store where you can download it for $1.99.
