Ultraviolet light isn't a typical source of lighting used for photography, however, it can make for some very creative, unique images. For portraiture in particular, there are tons of different things you can do with UV light, including having it interact with UV makeup, hair spray, paint and nail polish. It doesn't end there, though, as you can use UV dye in liquids to shoot abstract food images, or you could use UV wool to create an interesting backdrop for an image.

Austrian photographer Markus Berger put together a very interesting video about UV and blacklight photography for the Cooperative of Photography. With some UV lighting (flashlight, lamp, adapters, etc.) and UV-sensitive products, you can create dynamic and distinct portraits.

You can see the different ways that Markus Berger uses UV in the video below (reminder: the video may be NSFW).

In his commercial work, Berger has also utilized UV light to create cool action photos such as the two below.

There's a lot you can do with UV lighting, and it doesn't have to cost you a ton of money as you can find UV lights for very reasonable prices. All of the products used in the video above can be found on Amazon, for instance.
