Photography can occasionally be dangerous, but New York City-based photographer Christopher Serrano - known by his Instagram handle Heavy_Minds - often took it to new heights, literally. Unfortunately, his propensity for taking risks has cost him his life. Serrano was only 25 years old at the time of his death Wednesday morning. Being 25 myself, it's gut-wrenching to think about how much more time he should have had to share his unique perspective of New York City.

It is being reported that Serrano was riding the F train in Brooklyn with a friend around 5:00 a.m. EDT when he decided to scale the train and "subway surf." It is believed that he never acquired his balance, fell from the train and his body was found on the roadbed.

Many of his followers or those familiar with his work might have expected his untimely death to come scaling buildings rather than trying to ride a subway, but it was his sometimes shocking disregard for his own safety that allowed him to shoot photos most of us could scarcely dream of capturing. While precariously perched upon buildings and bridges in the Big Apple, Serrano captured beautiful images that provided viewers a sense of exhilaration and wonder.
