Leica has often opted for an understated, classic look for their cameras and lenses. However, lately they have been releasing some flashier gear. Remember their red and black ping pong paddle M-P Typ 240 from October? Well now there's a red lens coming out.

Leica has announced that their Leica APO Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH. lens will be available in a special edition red anodized finish. This is the first time ever that the legendary German company has launched one of their iconic optics in red. Each lens comes with a matching red lens cap and a special gray cowhide leather case.

The lens has the same exacting technical standards as its black and silver counterparts, but the red version comes with a higher price tag and more exclusivity as only 100 of these red lenses will be distributed worldwide. You can get in on the redness, for a whopping US$9,750 from Leica Store Miami. With that said, PetaPixel is reporting a price of $8,950. In either case, you're paying a "red premium" as the black and silver versions are both under $7,800.
