Blake Rudis of f64 Academy made a video to help breakdown a couple of powerful, but very different, blend modes in Photoshop: the color and luminosity blend modes.

To borrow an example from Rudis, suppose you are making a curves adjustment in Photoshop. If your blend mode is “normal,” the adjustment will change tone and color in your image. When using the color blend mode, tone data is not adjusted. Conversely, by using the luminosity blend mode, color data is no longer adjusted.

It is one thing to read about the blend modes, but it is much more useful to see them in action. In the video below, Rudis demonstrates normal, color and luminosity blend modes.
