One of the more popular camera comparisons we see on the site involve two of the most popular cameras: the Nikon D810 and the Canon 5D mark IV. When something like this gets a lot of clicks, we like to delve a bit further and offer our own opinions when it comes to a comparison, and we've done that in the form of an editorial comparison for the Nikon D810 versus the Canon 5D mark IV.

Of course, no sooner had we finished this editorial when Nikon went and announced the D850. You can bet we'll be doing a comparison with that camera, once we actually get one in the lab to do some testing on it.

In the meantime, if you're interested in using or purchasing either of these cameras, have a look at the comparison: the Nikon D810 is a fair bit older than the Canon 5D mark IV, and doesn't pack as much technology, but its 36.3-megapixel imager still provides some of the best images in the 35mm format. For video, it's hard to beat the Canon 5D mark IV, which has led the pack for consumer-level movie production and sports an impressive feature set.
