Check layers in Photoshop can let you zero in on your photo’s issues

Unmesh Dinda of PiXimperfect has published a new tutorial about check layers in Photoshop. Check layers are particularly useful when retouching images because they allow you to analyze different properties of your image across multiple layers, such as hue, saturation and luminosity, and determine what issues there are for you to address.

Check layers are essentially layers that visually display areas of imperfection that you might have otherwise missed when looking at your image normally. They are also sometimes referred to as false color layers or images because you are viewing only a snippet of your file's data. By seeing a subset of your image data, you can cut through the clutter, so to speak, and concentrate on just a single aspect of the photo.
