The new Panasonic G5 takes the best features of the earlier G3, steps them all up a notch and tosses in much-improved ergonomics as icing on the cake. We immediately fell in love with the G3 when we first saw and shot with it back in May of 2011, feeling it was a real watershed product in the Micro Four Thirds space. In...
Our review for the Sony A77 has languished in an almost-finished status for months now, but we've finally tied it off. Or at least we have until we hear back from Sony on a significant video AF issue we encountered.
You can check the video page of our Sony A77 review for the details, but the gist of it is that the...
No one was voted into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame this year, mainly due to the taint of performance enhancing drugs. But when it came to adding another model to the pantheon of legendary DSLRs, the Canon 5D Mark III -- introduced last spring -- earned IR's full support in just its first year of eligibility. And,...

Are you the designated photographer for your family? If so, there's a good chance something is missing from your photo albums: you. Fulfilling the duties of family record-keeper means you spend almost all your time behind the lens, making an occasional appearance only for posed, tripod-mounted shots. The Sony NEX-F3 aims to solve the problem...
Sony's been trying to crack the pro DSLR market for years, but with relatively little success until now. With the Sony A99, it looks like the company finally has made a breakthrough: It's a blazingly fast shooter that also delivers 24 megapixels of resolution, and Sony's new dual phase-detect AF system means it can focus rapidly,...

Canon so far has made one of the biggest digital imaging splashes at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with its new PowerShot N, a small, square-ish digicam that's so simple that it does away with the traditional shutter button and zoom controls. We got our hands on one at the show, and we found it to be a...
The Nikon D800 caused huge buzz when it was introduced, with owners and reviewers alike marveling at its incredible resolution. If the D800 was great, the Nikon D800E, with the low-pass filter effectively removed, must be even more incredible, right?
As you might guess, low-pass filters are present on cameras for a...
It's taken three tries, but Nikon has finally produced a flagship Coolpix digital camera that solidly holds its own against its top competitors. The new Nikon P7700 boasts an upgraded 12-megapixel sensor and a fast 7.1x zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.0, as well as a number of other enhancements. Nikon removed...

Nikon leads the way again, with the first "affordable" full-frame digital SLR. Fun to shoot, the Nikon D600 offers as little or as much control as you want, perfect for both amateurs and more advanced photographers; even pros will feel right at home. Its 24.3-megapixel sensor offers excellent detail, and performs well in...
At IR, we're passionate about making this site the best photography resource on the web. While we feel strongly that we have the most authoritative, objective reviews online, we wanted to make it easier for our readers to see similar models they might also want to consider.
Today we're releasing into beta a "Similar Cameras" feature on all of our reviews. You can see an example...
All the charm of an ELPH accompanies the Canon 530HS, with its box and circle design, but the surprise is the 12x zoom this diminutive digital camera conceals. Canon did a little sensor trick to make this possible, one that unfortunately affects image quality. Closely related to the 520HS, the 530HS adds a touchscreen and WiFi capability. Click here...
There's a problem with feature-rich, life-proof digital cameras: they typically look like feature-rich, life-proof digital cameras, and are about as pocket-friendly as a brick. With the TX200V, Sony shows it's possible to make a camera jam-packed with worthwhile features, safe to use at the beach, in the pool, or on the slopes, and yet to give it a...

All the controls are ideally suited for the experienced photographer: Important features have a button or dial, and there are even a few buttons you can program to work just how you want. Built for the rigors of professional photography, the Nikon D800 is...

Superzooms like the Sony HX200V are the veritable Swiss Army knives of the camera world. Where some cameras seem aimed for a specific task, this superzoom camera takes the "jack of all trades" approach, bolting on a versatile lens that tries to cover every possible shooting situation you might encounter.
But the superzoom's design is all...

Improved in several important ways, the Panasonic LX7 digital camera was a joy to shoot. Key refinements include a manual aperture ring, a manual focus toggle, and an even higher quality lens. As we've come to expect from Lumix digital cameras, the LX7 also had rock-solid image stabilization, and the new level gauge...

Multiple improvements help the Canon T4i retain its position as one of the easiest digital SLR cameras to recommend. New features like Full HD video with stereo recording, a new 5-frames-per-second frame rate, and multi-shot modes -- including HDR -- are real improvements worth noticing.
It was the Canon T4i's new...

Among digital SLRs, there are two kinds of good. There's the good that makes you think it's time to trade your old SLR in for a newer model, and there's the good that has you seriously considering selling your existing lenses and accessories, and jumping ship to a different lens mount.
On paper, at least, the Pentax K-30 manages the latter....
Back in mid-2011, Panasonic launched its tiny Lumix GF3, nicely demonstrating the size advantage of mirrorless over SLR cameras. This year's Panasonic GF5 takes that design and swaps in an improved sensor, faster image processor, higher-resolution touch screen display, and a raft of other tweaks.
Key among the...
The Samsung NX20 may look and feel like a digital SLR, but it's a compact system camera through and through. This small camera with a big 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor is capable of taking winning photos with lots of gorgeous detail along with top-notch full HD videos. Even better, if you like sharing your images and...
