  • Tamron 200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD IF SP AF

8 out of 10 points and recommended
    Light weight, Sharp, Cost
    No IF

Excellent sports lens for a photographer on a budget. Extremely sharp considering it's not a Nikon ED or a Canon L lens. I've used this lens for outdoor sports mainly soccer and found it to be very manageable. The only con I have is that internal focus would be nice as when this monster is racked out completely it's a bit long. Otherwise go for it!

  • Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical IF SP AF

8 out of 10 points and recommended
    Fast, Sharp, Low Cost
Construction leaves a bit to be desired, No IF

If you don't have the bucks for a Nikon ED or Canon L lens this one is worth considering. Very sharp and fast. Focus is good. The biggest con I have, is as others have said, is in the construction. Kind of cheap feeling. Otherwise a good product.

Sharp (WOW!), Did I say it was sharp?
    None

Probably the best non Nikon ED or non Canon L lens I have ever used. I have no complaints on this one. A fine addition to any photographer's camera bag.

    Sharpness, Construction, Cost

An indication of how good a lens is can be judged by how many are available for sale as used. This is a tough lens to find for sale 2nd hand. Folks that purchase this Tamron keep it. It's excellent constuction and surperb image reproduction make it a time honored classic. Whether its used for macro at f/32 or sports photography at f/3.5 this is a can't miss performer.

    Cost, Focus Speed, Contrast, Sharpness
    A little distortion....

For the price what can I say. The lens exhibits a little distortion at 17mm wide open but hey it's not a Nikon ED or a Canon L. Construction is good and overall image quality is outstanding. Recommend this lens?...totally.

10 out of 10 points and recommended
    Sharpness, IS, IF, Construction
    Size, Cost

Not much to say that the other haven't said. This is an expensive, heavy instrument gray monster that will draw attention wherever you go. You aren't going to blend into the crowd with this baby unless you are part of the white house press corps. A travel lens NO, carry it around all day? Only if you get a membership to a gym. Seriously the 70-200 L IS can be consider one of the best lens' ever made from the Canon side of the fence. So in conclusion, got $1600 and some strong arms plus a strong neck? Then this is your lens.
