  • Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS SEL50F18

9 out of 10 points and recommended
Extremely sharp, well balanced on nex 7, very cheap for the performance,OSS and fast.
    Inconsistant production quality

Bought this lens as a short portrait and landscape lens.
It`s very sharp indeed even ad full aperture, which is a fast 1.8.

There are some issues with mechanical noise, i brought 1 back to the store which had severe mechanical noise, my current also has some noise but not that bad.
The focus ring turns very smooth and feels right.

I`m very pleased with the image quality which is contrasty and clear, the OSS makes this already fast lens even better which is incredible.

I would recommend this lens for all nex shooters. It`s great.

  • Sony E 24mm f/1.8 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* ZA SEL24F18Z

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Magical color, light weight and sturdy, fast and very sharp at wide open.
Price..........but you get what you pay for.

I bought this lens as a walk around and street lens.

I has fantastic color that seems to give three dimensional properties to your images.
I`s also very fast at 1.8 full aperture.
Full open is sharp across the frame and gives very contrasty fotos, which is quite unique for a wide angle.

It`s very light weight but sturdy and well finished. It comes with a nice plastic hood which fits well. Focus is fast and almost silent.

This is wat makes Zeiss famous and comparible with truly great lenses.

If you can afford it`s high price, buy it!!

  • Sony E 16mm f/2.8 SEL16F28

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Very very light weight, good image quality for the price, fast accurat focus and makes your nex camera truly pocketable.
    Corner sharpness

I bought this lens for wide angle indoor an architectural shots and also as a platform for fisheye and ultra wide convertors from sony.

The image quality is just fine. Considering the price its better than that.

The colors are crisp and clean, with good contrast.
Center sharpness is great even at wide open, corner sharpness is not for pixel peepers but acceptible.

This lens really stands out in extreme light weight and construction quality, which is great. On any nex camera it provides the lowest profile possible on any high quality photography system. It becomes a pocket camera.

After several months of use i noticed the very fast focus speed and the accuracy of the focus. It never seems to fail.

I think any nex shooter should buy this.

  • Sony E 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS SEL1855

8 out of 10 points and recommended
Very nice aluminium design, versatile also for video and good OSS
    Soft, mediocre contrast,slow

I got this lense as a kit lens with my body and kept it for video and OSS functionality.

This is my least used nex lens, it`s practical for video shooting but foto`s show the apparent flaws of this nice kit lens.
It`s as slow as any kit so nothing special there.

It`s just not sharp enough to resolve the resolution of the nex 7 or any other nex.
It still makes nice pictures if you are not that critical and print small. The colors are nice and natural. The contrast is just good enough but nothing special.

If you postprocess good results can be had with this lens.

I use it mainly for video because of the excellent OSS which gives a steady picture, also the resolution is not such a problem with video.

As a kit lens it`s better than average and i would recommend it.

It looks and feels sturdy with it`s all aluminium barrel. It also seems a lot better made than most kit lenses.

  • Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS SEL55210

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp, light weight, small, excellent mechanical quality and super stabiliation
Slow aperture, still looks big on a NEX body

I bought this for detail architectural shots and keeping distance from my subjects.
Very sharp in the middle less in the corners but still very good.
Color and contrast is about as good as on the 50 1.8 OSS which is great.
Mechanical it has a real high end feel while keeping the weight low.
It is a telezoom and therefore relatively LONG especially on a NEX body. It does keep it`s balance well on a NEX 7.

The OSS of this lens is as good as it gets and comparible to expensive IS lenses from canon.
Note that this lens costs less as a whole than the IS upgrade on most canon lenses, about halve actually. That makes it a steal.

It has a slow aperture starting at 4.5 and going to 6.3 at the long end. It doesn`t give you much bokeh to look at.
The bokeh is nothing special but not bad.

It`s a very good lens at an incredible price. Buy it!

  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

2 out of 10 points and not recommended
    Looks nice, fast aperture
Plastic, grinding autofocus, terrible image quality

Nice looking lense at 1.4 aperture. That`s the good news.

The bad news is you can`t get decent pictures wth it until stopped down to 4.0 and even then it lacks contrast.
The colors are plain, boring and liveless and in combinatian with my 5d mk2 very unnatural looking, especially skin tones.

Glad i sold all my canon stuff and bought something decent.

Also this lens is of ancient design the only thing modern about it is it`s plastic construction an grinding autofocus. It seems to come fron the seventies and is optically hardly improved.

  • Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS SELP1650

9 out of 10 points and recommended
Light weight, fast autofocus, good color
Cheapish, flare, jpg only due to massive distortion

This is a very good lens..........for photographers.
Pixel peepers need not apply. But still good image quality.
Use this lens anywhere cause it turns your nex into a pocket.
Very light weight pancake construction with motor zoom, i like it.

Well it`s not a prime that`s clear from the first shot, but you will get that shot i you want to, cause this lens does it all.
If you want to cary your nex anywhere this one is a nobrainer.
Higly recommended athough it does flare.

  • Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

3 out of 10 points and not recommended
17-40 range on fullframe, Looks nice
Low color contrast, not sharp, much plastic and PRICE

On canon full frame at first glance a must have lens.
Everybody seems to like it, well.......
I don`t and i am not overly critical too. It seems that internet talk an clever canon marketing give this thing an much better rating than it deserves.

The colors are brownish and boring and to my taste unnatural looking.
Its not sharp wide open and hardly improves stopped down, you just do`t get crip images and all stays soft and bland.

Also it isn`t full metal it seems that many parts are plastic including barel and filter threath ther are many more platic parts inside that you can`t see.
Its way to expensive cause it`s hardly better than a kit lens.
This lens is one of the reasons why i sold all my canon stuff and bought a decent camera.
    Never looked back.

  • Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS SEL90M28G

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Extremely sharp. Excellent contrast and colors. Dream like bokeh. OSS works very well for hand shooting.
Heavy. Expensive, but you get what you pay for and more.

Great lens for macro work and short tele.
Very nice and accurate picture quality which resolves the 42 mps of the a7rII with ease.
Phantastic bokeh without any unartistic interferance. It just looks great, being tack sharp, unforgiven and at the same time very pleasing to look at.

  • Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 ZA Zeiss Distagon T* SEL35F14Z

10 out of 10 points and recommended
The best. Unrestrained quality. Superb colors and contrast. 1.4 is SHARP, and very useable. Bokeh is a work of art.
Heavy. Very expensive. Large. Needs expensive filters due to large size.

What can i say, it`s the best.
Simply undefeatable in foto quality, especialy on A7Rii.
Resolves every pixel wit ease, while not getting technical and unartistic.
Full open works and is perfectly useable. Bokeh........well just look at it.

It has only one real downside, it`s bulky.

  • Zeiss 40mm f/2 Batis 2/40 CF

9 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp wide open. Ultra sharp from 2.8 and up. Pleasing colors, gives that zeiss look. Very versatile, close focus. Looks nice on your camera.
Only 2.0, relativly large. Very expensive

Very nice lens, with pleasing and acurate colors.
Different then the other sony lenses, more colour full to my taste.
Sharp wide open and crazy sharp stopped down.
Very modern design with matching lens hood, looks good on your camera.
Oled indication screen for who cares.

Not the fastest lens concidering it`s size. It`s rather large.
Its very expensive, but the quality justifies it.
