Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
10 out of 10 points and recommendedLight, sharp, superb image quality, reasonable cost.f/4 aperture and lack of ISThis was my first L lens with my Rebel XT. It is simply a phenomenal lens. The images are razor sharp and the colors simply amazing. Occasionally I wish for f/2.8 or IS, but with high ISO I usually still get the shots I want. Even if I got the f/2.8 I would keep this lens because it is so much lighter. Definitely a fantastic lifetime investment. Never buy a lens that you wouldn't keep forever!

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical IF SP AF
9 out of 10 points and recommendedLight, sharp, f/2.8None at the price, occasionally need widerI bought this lens for my Rebel XT before the Tamron 17-50 was available. However it makes an excellent walk around lens and I find the 75 mm length gets used a lot. Sometimes I wish it was wdier, but I generally stitch my landscapes anyway. I will probably get a 10-22 for the wide angles rather than upgrade to one of the 17-xx lenses. Mine is very sharp and focuses accurately. Colors are not quite as vivid as my 70-200L, but stil very good. It is light and compact, so a very good fit for the small XT. The lens cap has internal clasps, making it easy to remove with the hood in place - very convenient!
