Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G ED-IF DX AF-S Nikkor
7 out of 10 points and recommendedsmall, cheap, mostly sharpvariable aperture, occasionally hunts for a focus in low lightI used this lens during my short trip in Romania. It managed very well for a lens in this price category. It's only weakness was in lowlight performance. It failed to focus properly in some difficult indoor situations.

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
6 out of 10 points and recommendedIS, low price and weightcheap plastic construction and mount, rotating front elementI used this lens during my trip to Vietnam and Cambodia this year. Not so bad lens for a price. I loved IS performance and was satisfied by image quality in most situations. Build quality is a weak point. Manual focus ring is almost useless, overal construction is loose and weak, rotating front element is annoying.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM
9 out of 10 points and recommendedfast, sharp, great bokehbig&heavy, 77mm filter sizeRealy great portrait lens for a crop sensor. My copy is sharp over all frame even wide open; fast and true autofocus operation; good color and creamy "impressionist" bokeh. Ah! Just wish it to be not so bulky and heavy!
