Sigma UK has today published an introductory "teaser" website for a new single-lens reflex digital camera model.

According to the website (which is currently rather slow to access, likely due to traffic from prospective customers!), the new model will be called the Sigma SD14 and will retain a full-color-capture image sensor - a hallmark of Sigma's past DSLR offerings. The company's previous Sigma SD9 and SD10 both featured the ability to record full color at every pixel location, courtesy of a Foveon X3 image sensor, and the latter model was launched almost three years ago. Since the SD10 hit the market, there has been only one other Foveon camera of any kind launched (barring specialized devices for industrial applications and the like) - a compact model dubbed the x530, sold under the Polaroid brandname.

Several screenshots of the teaser follow below (accompanied by a transcription of the text, given that the fonts can be slightly difficult to read at reduced size). Few specific details are revealed beyond the camera's use of a full-color-capture sensor (presumably continuing the relationship with Foveon), plus a launch date of September 26th, 2006 - scheduled to coincide with the start of the Photokina trade show in Cologne, Germany.

As always, you can expect to find further details on our news page as they come to light.

Sigma SD14 DSLR Teaser

"you believe that all digital cameras capture all colors?"

"you're satisfied with a sensor that detects one color per pixel?"

"you believe that all RAW data is created equal?"

"if you could have fundamentally better technology, would you settle for added, improved functions instead?"

"the truth will soon be revealed..."
