A press release from Komamura, the Japanese distributor for German camera company Rollei, announces a new limited edition variant of the RolleiFlex MiniDigi digital camera model it first announced in 2003.

Initially sold in a 1.3 megapixel variant, a slightly higher-res MiniDigi was launched in July 2004, and it is this unit which the new camera is identical to in all but color. The MiniDigi features the unusual choice of a two megpaixel square CMOS sensor, coupled with a 9mm fixed focus lens. The focusing range is 0.7m to infinity, and shutter speeds are now 1/15 to 1/4000 second. An interpolated three megapixel resolution of 1760 x 1760 pixels is available, if you don't mind sacrificing storage capacity to save having to interpolate images on your PC instead. For framing images there's a 0.9 inch LCD display, and the MiniDigi weighs just 100 grams.

The new limited edition variant takes the original camera, and gives it a new body color - "Italian Red". 1,500 units will be made in this color scheme. Pricing and availability for the Italian Red Komamura Rolleiflex MiniDigi has not been announced at this time.

Komamura Introduces Limited Red-version of the Rolleiflex MiniDigi Camera

Komamura Corporation is pleased to announce launching of a limited red-version of the Rolleiflex MiniDigi camera, a palm-sized replica of the famous Rolleiflex 2.8F camera, in commemoration of the third year since introduction of the original black version MiniDigi in July 2004.

The Rolleiflex MiniDigi is a close miniaturized digital replica of the Rolleiflex 2.8F, the famous German-made twin lens reflex camera that has been a preferred tool to top professional photographers for more than eight decades since its first introduction in 1920'. Two years have passed since Komamura launched the Rolleiflex MiniDigi digital replica in black in July 2004, but it has been maintaining its popularity among people, especially among those who have hankered after a Rollei. All the features, including the classical outer appearance with high exactitude, the cute palm-sized body, the waist level viewfinder and the square format peculiar to twin lens reflex cameras, are highly evaluated by photographers all over the world. The Rollei MiniDigi is not only a quality digital camera. With its many traditional and nostalgic elements in styling, it also has been gaining popularity among younger generations, men and women alike, as a nifty item that is fully functional as a digital camera and fashionable at the same time, suitable for all scenes including travel photography and candid shots on streets.

The limited version Rollei MiniDigi to be launched this time in commemoration of the third year is an Italian Red version. The Limited Italian Red-version Rolleiflex MiniDigi will be made available to photographers all over the world at the same time but in a limited quantity of 1,500 units only.
