Nikon Digital Cameras Take Top Honors at PMA Event

LAS VEGAS -- Nikon received the highly-coveted "Excellence in Imaging" award on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at DigitalFocus 2000, an annual media event held the evening before the official opening of the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show in Las Vegas. Sponsored by Popular Science magazine and DigitalFocus, the awards were given to the Nikon Coolpix 950 consumer digital camera and the Nikon D1 professional digital camera.

"The Nikon Coolpix 950 exemplifies the kind of outstanding performance and exceptional control that prosumer buyers want in a digital camera," said Chris O'Malley, editor of DigitalFocus. "The 950 was the camera to beat among 2 megapixel models all year long, and it's a very deserving winner in our Prosumer Digital Camera category."

Introduced in February 1999, the Coolpix 950 has become a best seller in the marketplace, outperforming every camera in its class. Its 2.11 megapixel resolution, 3x Nikkor zoom lens, and affordable price have earned it the #1 rating from the leading product testing organization as well as awards from top industry publications including MacWorld, Petersen's Photographic, and PC Magazine.

"We're very proud of the Coolpix 950," said Bill Giordano, National Marketing Manager, Nikon Consumer Imaging, who accepted the award. "Without a doubt, it has set the standard in digital photography for the serious amateur, and it has more than earned its place as a member of the Nikon Digital Family."

First introduced in June 1999, Nikon's D1 top-of-the-line professional digital SLR has become the camera of choice for photojournalists and professional sports, travel and nature photographers the world over. Its 2.75 megapixels of resolution, 4.5 frames-per-second in bursts of 21 consecutive shots, quick start-up time and F-mount Nikkor lens, are a perfect match for these fast-paced, highly competitive environments, where picture quality, speed and control are paramount.

"Nikon's D1 is a key milestone in expanding the world of professional digital photography," said O'Malley. "The D1 incorporates the strengths of Nikon's F series, while pursuing the cutting edge of digital technology. That combination made it the winner in our Professional Digital Camera category."

Richard LoPinto, Vice President, Marketing, Professional SRL Imaging at Nikon, commented, "We put everything we know about digital imaging technology and great picture-taking into this camera, and it shows. We're very gratified that two of the industry's most-respected publications have recognized our efforts."
