By Mike Pasini, The Imaging Resource
(Saturday, February 23, 2002 - 14:13 EST)

Lexar Media authorized professional dealers will use Image Rescue to provide image recovery services for their digital photography customers.

Lexar Media Inc. has announced a proprietary image file recovery program for the digital photography industry. Image Rescue(tm), debuting at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show Orlando, Florida, recovers "perceived to be lost" image files from CompactFlash(tm) memory cards. Participating Lexar Media authorized professional dealers will use Image Rescue to provide image recovery services for their digital photography customers.

Lexar Media's Image Rescue solution goes to the root-level of the data structure to identify and retrieve lost JPEG, TIFF, RAW and thumbnail files on the memory card and allows the user to back-up image files to a computer's hard drive.

In brief, Lexar Media Image Rescue:

  • Works with a Lexar Media-brand CompactFlash that is connected to desktop or laptop computer via Lexar Media JumpShot(tm) cable

  • Locates and recovers JPEG, TIFF, RAW and thumbnail files regardless of operating system and card formatting

  • Offers Erase Card and Secure Erase functions

  • Fixes non-electronic card malfunctions; does not correct flash, controller or firmware-related problems

  • Image Rescue will be available through authorized professional dealers beginning March 2002

Lexar Media Delivers Digital Photography Industry's First Image Rescue(tm) Service

Break-through Service Available From Authorized Professional Dealers PMA, Orlando, FL, February 22, 2002 - Lexar Media Inc. (Nasdaq: LEXR), a leading designer, developer and marketer of award-winning high-performance digital media and reader products, announces a product break-through for digital photographers with its proprietary image file recovery program for the digital photography industry. Image Rescue(tm), debuting at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show Orlando, Florida, is a unique program that recovers 'perceived to be lost' image files from CompactFlash(tm) memory cards. Participating Lexar Media authorized professional dealers will use Image Rescue to provide image recovery services for their digital photography customers.

Common culprits that can cause images to be lost include: removing the card from a camera before an image is fully stored, digital camera battery levels being too low to write a complete image, and fluctuations in power flow to a digital camera. Eric Stang, president and CEO, Lexar Media notes, "Occasionally, files on any mass storage device may become inaccessible due to mishandling. For anyone who has lost valuable or cherished images, our new Image Rescue service will be one of the industry's most important break-through products and a real value-add for photo specialty dealers."

Most disk recovery software programs identify problems and repair the card to allow it to store again, but previously saved image files remain inaccessible. Lexar Media's Image Rescue solution goes to the root-level of the data structure to identify and retrieve lost images. In most cases, Image Rescue locates JPEG, TIFF, RAW and thumbnail files from all sectors on the memory card and allows the user to back-up image files to a designated area on a computer's hard drive.

Other valuable functions of Image Rescue include two levels of file removal from the card. 'Erase Card' and 'Secure Erase.' Erase Card removes all image files from the card. The Secure Erase function permanently removes all files from the card, leaving the CompactFlash card 100 percent clear of any previously stored data. With Secure Erase, image files are no longer visible to Image Rescue. Both operations will reformat and restore a previously failed card to working condition.
