Pentax has today announced a new five megapixel digital camera model aimed at entry level users.

The Pentax Optio 50 digital camera couples its 5.19 megapixels (total) CCD imager with a 3x optical zoom lens equivalent to 32 - 96mm on a 35mm camera. Other features include a 1.8" LCD display with 130,000 pixels, actual-image viewfinder, four-mode internal flash, five scene modes, USB and video connectivity, SD / MMC and 12MB of built in memory for storage, and power from two AA batteries.

US pricing and availability have not yet been announced. The camera will apparently cost £150 in the United Kingdom, approximately equivalent to US$282 (ignoring exchange rate fluctuations, taxes and duties).
