Sony USA has today announced its new Cyber-shot DSC-S40 digital camera, a 4.1 megapixel entry level model scheduled to ship in mid-March for $199.

The S40 features a 3x optical zoom lens, branded as a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar, and similar to that used in the previous DSC-L1 model. Other features include an eye-level viewfinder, 1.5" LCD, 32MB of internal memory, and a Memory Stick slot. The internal memory is fully addressable, meaning that you can copy images from memory to Memory Stick, or transfer them from the internal memory to a computer via USB (note however that you cannot copy TO internal memory from Memory Stick). The camera draws power from two AA batteries, and comes bundled with disposable alkaline batteries.
