Taiwan-sourced JD 4100 z3 puts price ahead of manual controls...

German technology company Jenoptik AG has announced its first 4-megapixel digital camera, our friends at Steve's Digicams and digitalkamera.de report. The Jenoptik JD 4100 z3 is an update to the current 3.3 megapixel 3300 z3 model with a new 4.13 megapixel imager, and as with that camera is sourced from Taiwanese manufacturer Skanhex Technology Inc. Sold by Skanhex as the SX410z, the camera has little in the way of manual functionality (manual focus and preset white balance, but no manual exposure or metering options), aiming instead for a low price point. This it achieves admirably, coming in as the cheapest 4 megapixel digicam we're currently aware of at $617 (based on conversion of the announced UK price, and subtraction of the UK Value Added Tax).

The Jenoptik JD 4100 z3 is currently shipping in Europe, and has a UK list price of £500 inclusive of 17.5% Value Added Tax. No plans for US sales have been announced. Full specifications for the camera are in our database, and highlights follow:
