Canon's EOS-1D digital camera. Courtesy of Canon, with modifications by Michael R. Tomkins. Full review posted for Canon EOS-1D! (UPDATED)

We've had a week with an EOS-1D with the latest firmware (v1.0.1), have a full review posted, with sample images!

Looks like it's time for our bandwidth charges to go through the roof again! - We've had a Canon EOS-1D with updated firmware (version 1.0.1) for about a week now, have shot all our usual test targets, plus a handful of random shots (which we'll post shortly). We've posted a complete review of the camera, complete with timing tests. (Some interesting reading there: You need to make sure you have a fast CF card to get the most out of the EOS-1D!) We felt that the 1D's default tone curve was a little on the dark side, but color in this firmware release is quite good. Other than some comments on the software feature that lets you create custom tone curves for the camera (which will hopefully get some rework in its interface before the product ships), we've refrained from posting any screenshots of the software, or reviewing it in any detail, since Canon has told us that there'll be a new release of drivers before the camera ships. - We'll update our coverage when the updated software comes available. For now though, the rest of the camera's operation and performance is detailed in our usual exhaustive manner. (This is a lot of camera!) Read the review for all the details!

UPDATED 2001-10-24 09:32ET: Our friends at the Digital Photography Review website have also got a pre-production EOS-1D in-house, and Phil Askey just emailed with the following news:
"We've just updated our Canon EOS-1D Professional D-SLR preview. There are now various updates in the main section of the preview as well as two new image quality pages with colour matrix examples, ISO noise comparison and resolution comparisons. There's also a 24 image samples gallery from this newer (but still pre-production) EOS-1D."
