Time magazine leaks info on Apple's latest hardware and software just as MacWorld 2002 opens...

Numerous Apple sites around the web, such as Macintouch and SpyMac are reporting that Time Magazine in Canada has blown the doors off Apple's latest product announcement somewhat ahead of schedule. The announcements include an update to the iMac lineup that replaces the bulky current design with a 15" LCD screen on an articulated stand that keeps the angle of the screen consistent whilst it is raised or lowered. Available in several models with a choice of a standard DVD drive, combo DVD/CD-RW drive or the so-called SuperDVD drive (which is a combo CD-RW and DVD-RW drive), the new iMac will cost from $1299 to $1800.

Also announced at the same time is iPhoto, Apple's much-anticipated partner to its existing iMovie, iDVD and iTunes programs. iPhoto organises digital images and allows basic functionality such as cropping and editing. Interestingly, Time says that Apple will allow the creation of 10-page hardcover photo albums, similar to the service once offered by now-defunct company PrintLife.com. Time's article notes that iPhoto allows browsing of images as thumbnails on a film strip, and claims this to be much better than the PC alternative (apparently author Josh Quittner hasn't seen Windows XP, which works exactly the same way)...

Time's article has numerous images of the new iMac from various angles, whilst iPhoto can be seen on SpyMac's front page... Our own Mike Pasini will be reporting live from the MacWorld Expo show floor, so stay tuned!
