Latest version goes in further in removing noise, particularly above ISO 800...

Canon Inc. has announced a new version of firmware for its EOS-1D SLR digital camera on the BeBit website. Firmware version 1.3.0 goes even further than the 1.2.0 version announced at the start of the month, particularly at ISO ratings above 800. Similarly to the previous firmware update, the new update also includes a tone curve file which can optionally be used to decrease noise further.

At the same time, Canon Japan announced a fix for the problem some users have reported where a one-pixel horizontal line of noise is found near the top of some photos. Unfortunately this fix requires the camera to be returned to your local Canon distributor, as per the details on the warranty card... If you have a camera that shipped with v1.2.0 or later of firmware, then your unit has already had this fix applied. If not, we'd recommend returning the camera for fixing only if you've noticed the problem and it bothers you, since of necessity you'll be without your camera for some time whilst it is fixed.
