Olympus' entry-level Camedia digital camera on the IR reviewing bench...

One of the first digicams I reviewed on this site was the Olympus D-220L, nearly four years ago. The Camedia D-380 is a direct descendant of that little 640-480 wonder, and definitely shows how far we've come. The D-380 has about 20x the pixels of the original D-220, but costs about half as much. Not to mention a range of features that'd have been headline news back in that earlier time.

The D-380 is Oly's entry-level model, with two megapixels and a fixed focus, fixed focal-length lens. Very simple to operate, it would be a great choice for someone who just wants a basic point & shoot with good color, or for someone to purchase for their kids. Its fixed-focus lens leaves it with rather soft images at infinity, and limited close-up capability, but overall it's a nice little camera. Check it out!
