3 megapixel, 2.8x optical zoom digicam from Olympus praised for its image quality, features, and price...

As I said in my conclusion, every now and then a manufacturer hits a real "sweet spot" in terms of image quality, features, and price, and I think Olympus has done just that with the Camedia D-550 Zoom. It's got all the features a typical snapshooter could need, takes great pictures with excellent color, has excellent battery life, and is bargain-priced to boot. Its three megapixels of resolution will give you tack-sharp 8x10 enlargements, and it combines ease of use with a nice level of optional controls.

About my only criticism of it is that it's default tone curve is awfully contrasty, at least for my tastes. But even that has a solution, in the form of a contrast adjustment in its menu system, that lets you select low, normal, or high contrast. With that control set to low contrast, the 550 produced very nice pictures, even by my standards. Very nice, highly recommended. Check it out!
