Coolpix 885, 2000 users get updates for their cameras as well...

We told you earlier today about a new firmware version for the Nikon Coolpix 995 digital camera in Europe, and eagle-eyed Sebastian Pennings of the dcviews website dropped us a line to point out that there were two other new releases.

European users of the Coolpix 885 and 2000 digital cameras both get new firmware that fixes some bugs. For the Coolpix 885, version 1.1 has the following changes:
  • Depending on the shooting scene, a higher compression ratio than normal was applied to images captured in Fine image-quality and FULL image size settings. This issue has been eliminated.
  • Action has been taken to improve the camera firmware preventing a certain type of SYSTEM ERROR from being displayed on the camera LCD display
For Coolpix 2000 users, meanwhile, version 1.4 has the following bug-fixes:
  • Sometimes when using the EC-8CF CF card provided in box, the warning "Please format the CF Card" or similar appears on the camera LCD monitor when the camera is connected to a PC via USB
  • When inserting a formatted CF card into the camera and switching the camera on in Playback mode "All images are hidden" is displayed on the LCD monitor
Of these, the Coolpix 885 firmware is also available in Asia. Neither update is currently available in the USA.

As usual, we strongly recommend users don't attempt to install updates from regions in which their camera was not purchased, and that they follow the upgrade instructions carefully so as not to damage their cameras.

Thanks to Sebastian Pennings / dcviews.com for this item!
