FUJIFILM ADDS PAIR OF ULTRA-SLIM, ULTRA-LIGHT DIGITAL CAMERAS TO ITS ENTRY-LEVEL FINEPIX A-SERIES LINE

ELMSFORD, NY, August 1, 2002 - Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. today announced two new entry-level additions to its line of compact, user-friendly A-Series digital cameras - the FinePix A203 and FinePix A303. The sleek and stylish, easy-to-use cameras are among the slimmest and lightest digital cameras in the category and designed specifically for the entry-level digital photographer desiring to grow and advance into the category.

"We received a highly positive reaction from consumers upon our introduction of the first entry-level A-series cameras last year, " said Eric Thorng, Senior Marketing Manager, Consumer Digital Imaging Products, Consumer Markets Division, Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. "We're now delighted to introduce two new models to that line, packing added features into an extremely light and compact package, at affordable prices - all with the same point-and-shoot ease."

Both cameras offer multi-megapixel resolutions capable of generating sharp, richly colored photos and prints up to 11 x 14 inches. The A203 is a 2.0 million effective pixel camera, while the A303 is a 3.24 million effective pixel camera. As with traditional film developing, photographers can develop their digital camera photos at thousands of retail outlets nationwide.

The ultra-slim FinePix A203 and FinePix A303 digital cameras both offer the following features:

  • 3x Optical zoom - The FinePix A203 and FinePix A303 offer an all-glass, Fujinon 3x optical zoom in the slimmest of bodies.
  • Movie recording - The FinePix A203 records 20-second movies (without sound) at 10 frames per second in 320 x 240 resolution and 80 seconds at 160 x 120. The FinePix A303 can record 60 and 240 seconds at 320 x 240 and 160 x 120, respectively.
  • PC-cam - Both cameras are the only cameras in their category to come equipped with videoconferencing capabilities to create messages or communicate in real time with friends and family.
  • Power source - The FinePix A203 and FinePix A303 are designed to consume very low power, both powered by 2 "AA" batteries, enhancing the lightweight and compact qualities of the cameras and making them the only cameras in their category to require such little power to operate.

The advanced FinePix A303 digital camera also boasts the following features:

  • 3.24 million effective pixels- For that extra color and picture clarity, the higher resolution of the FinePix A303 enables the camera to deliver a wider range of colors and detail, especially in larger prints.
  • Ultra-fast processing speed - The FinePix A303's ultra-fast processing speed lets the photographer shoot pictures at a more rapid pace than other entry-level models.
  • Macro focus - The camera is enabled with a macro focus of 0.3 - 2.6 feet allowing consumers to shoot close up images without losing any range of field.
  • Flash range - The FinePix A303's flash range is 1.0ft - 11.5ft. in wide angle.

The compact FinePix A203 and FinePix A303 each weigh only 5.1 oz. without batteries. The cameras come bundled with two AA Alkaline batteries, USB cable, hand strap, 16MB xD-Picture Card, FinePixViewer, ImageMixer VCD for FinePix, DP Editor and Apple QuickTime™ 5.0. Each of the cameras will be available for purchase in September 2002 priced at $279.99 and $349.99 respectively.

New xD-Picture Card Storage Media:
The FinePix A203 and FinePix A303 each support the new xD-Picture Card. Jointly developed by Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. and Olympus Optical Co., Ltd., xD-Picture Card is the smallest storage format of its kind on the market - comparable in size to a penny, measuring just 0.79" x 0.98" x 0.07" and weighing less than one-tenth of an ounce - with the potential for up to 8GB storage capacity in a single card. This unprecedented combination of small size and large capacity will allow Fujifilm and other companies to manufacture sleeker and lighter cameras than ever before.

In addition, the xD-Picture Card was designed with fast read/write capabilities for smooth digital camera operations. A 16 or 32MB card can record data at 1.3MB/second. A 64MB card or higher can record data at 3MB/second and both offer a read speed of 5MB/second. The card was also designed to minimize power consumption saving battery life.

The xD-Picture Card initially will be available for purchase in 32MB, 64MB and 128MB capacities at competitive pricing of $29.99, $49.99 and $89.99, respectively. A 256MB card is planned for later this year (16 MB cards will be included with each camera).

PCMCIA and CompactFlash card adapters will be available, allowing use of xD-Picture Card in a variety of cameras and other devices.
