A press release from Komamura, the Japanese distributor for German camera company Rollei, announces an update to the RolleiFlex MiniDigi digital camera model it first announced a year ago.

The original RolleiFlex MiniDigi featured a 1.3 megapixel CMOS image sensor and a 9.9mm fixed-focus lens in a body designed to look like a medium-format twin-lens reflex camera, the RolleiFlex 2.8F. The new MiniDigi retains the same body as its predecessor, along with most of the same feature set - the major difference being that the 1.3 megapixel 4:3 aspect ratio imager has been replaced with a two megapixel square imager. Instead of the original 1280 x 960 pixel resolution, the new MiniDigi has a resolution of either 1280 x 1280 or 640 x 640 pixels...

The RolleiFlex MiniDigi will be exhibited at the Photo Expo 2004 show in Tokyo, Japan from Friday, March 19th. It will go on sale two months later from Friday, May 21st at a price of ¥39,800 (roughly equivalent to US$358 / €289 / CAD$473 / £195, ignoring exchange rate fluctuations, taxes and duties). A brief summary of the new MiniDigi's specs includes the following:
