ADOBE.GIF PRESS RELEASE: Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 Takes DVD Authoring to a New Level of Creativity and Efficiency

SAN JOSE, Calif. - April 19, 2004 - Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe Encore(tm) DVD 1.5, a significant upgrade of its award-winning DVD authoring software. Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 makes it easy for video professionals to publish consistent high-quality results, and output to all recordable DVD formats, while delivering new levels of creative control, workflow enhancements and outstanding integration with Adobe's entire video product line-up.

Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 is a core component of the Adobe Video Collection 2.5, which includes new versions of Adobe Premiere® Pro, Adobe After Effects®, and Adobe Audition(tm) (see separate releases). Together, these products deliver a complete digital video and audio post-production platform for video and audio editing, motion graphics, visual effects, and DVD authoring at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions.

"The impressive new features in Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 allow me to complete DVD projects more efficiently, leaving more time to work on creative design, or additional DVD titles," said Ralph LaBarge, managing partner of Alpha DVD, and creator of more than 400 DVD projects. "Tightly integrated with other Adobe products, Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 allows me to create DVD productions that truly stand out from the crowd."

Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 now delivers even greater DVD design capabilities. The new Library Palette can be used to organize menus, buttons, backgrounds, text styles and vector shapes. Dozens of customizable menus and hundreds of shapes, buttons, and text styles are now built into Adobe Encore DVD. The new Styles Palette allows users to store Adobe Photoshop® CS layer effects such as shadows, glows, and bevels to quickly change the appearance of DVD menu elements.

Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 supports an expanded range of audio and video formats, including QuickTime files. Preview of DVD menus on an external NTSC or PAL monitor simplifies the DVD production process and previewing the entire DVD project is now supported by leading digital video cards, such as the Matrox RT.X100. Customers can now transcode files in the background while continuing DVD design work, saving significant production time. Working with multiple windows is now more efficient, with customizable workspaces that can be saved and recalled at any time. In addition, the new Adobe Encore Project Checker identifies problems with the DVD project before it is written to disc, saving quality verification time.

Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 provides industry-leading support for Photoshop CS, including new support for nested layer sets, and non-square pixels for accurate display on a television monitor. Integration between Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Adobe Encore has also been enhanced. Markers in Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 or After Effects 6.5 AVI and MPEG-2 files automatically create DVD chapter points in Adobe Encore DVD. Creating impressive motion menus is now easy, allowing users to send a menu from Adobe Encore directly to After Effects 6.5 for animation. Import Adobe Audition 1.5 audio files into Adobe Encore to convert to Dolby® Digital audio.
