An email from IR reader "Gary" tells us that Kowa's long-awaited TD-1 Spotting Scope / DSC may soon start shipping in the USA.

First announced way back in March 2003, the TD-1 features a combination of a 3.14 megapixel CCD imager with a 3x zoom spotting scope that gives 35mm-equivalent focal lengths from 450 to an impressive 1350mm. The device was subsequently delayed in June, 2003 for a redesign, and the last we'd heard was that it was slated to begin shipping "soon" in Japan a few months back.

Gary tells us that he's spoken to a Kowa sales rep, who told him that the TD-1 will be shipping in the USA at the end of November. MSRP pricing is apparently set at a hefty US$2500, with street pricing expected to be in the region of US$2000 at launch.

Thanks to "Gary" for this item!
