Original Source Press Release:

CANON'S NEW COMPACT PHOTO PRINTER SELPHY CP600 MAKES HIGH QUALITY PRINTING ON THE FLY, FAST, EASY AND FUN

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., Feb. 17, 2005 – First, Canon made picture taking a thing of ease. Now, Canon makes picture sharing a go anywhere, print anytime breeze, thanks to the new Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600. Happily, punctual picture sharing is no longer limited to low-resolution e-mail images and, for those craving “real pictures,” the Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 makes trips to the “one hour” photo store no longer necessary (along with those Internet ordered but snail-mail delivered prints from online websites). The Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 will be on display at PMA 2005, February 20-23 (Canon Booth #3503), in Orlando, Fla.

Compact, lightweight, completely portable and powered by AC or a supplied rechargeable battery, the Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 connects directly to any Canon or PictBridge- compliant digital cameras and delivers brilliant borderless postcard-size prints in as little as 63 seconds**. The CP600 is also compatible with wireless printing from IrDA-equipped camera phones that use the IrOBEX “vNote”protocol† for image transfer. The successor to Canon’s popular CP-330 model, this printer features high resolution, 300 x 300 dpi output, increased printing speed thanks to a new high-speed print engine, enhanced image processing with Canon’s exclusive DIGIC II technology and even supports four print sizes (including 4 x 8 greeting cards size prints) and a flock of more flexible photo formats including postcards, greeting cards, passport photos, photo album pages and personal photo stickers.

“The Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 is the flagship of Canon’s consumer dye-sub printer line, yet it is the very soul of simplicity when it comes to photo printing,” said Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon U.S.A., Inc, a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE:CAJ). “Users need only plug the camera into the printer and press the Print/Share button and in barely more than a minute they will be holding a picture in their hand that rivals photo lab results.”

Instant Longevity Indoors And Out
From alfresco family reunions and picnics in the park to other photo-worthy venues where plugging a photo printer into a power outlet is just not possible, the CP600 printer is an instant memory maker that provides prints on the spot for people to treasure for years and even generations to come. Indeed, it is Canon’s “100 year††” image overcoat that invisibly helps to protect the print from environmental impurities, helping ensure that today’s family photo is tomorrow’s family heirloom.

What’s more, the absolute portability of the printer – it weighs in at under two pounds and operates on AC power as well as the supplied heavy-duty rechargeable battery – makes it a welcome addition to birthday and anniversary parties and holiday events by creating party favors and mementos of the occasion that people can take home with them.

Fast Photos
With the use of Canon’s proprietary DIGIC II technology and the PictBridge protocol, the CP600 printer turns out postcard size prints (approximately 4 x 6-inches) in as fast as 63 seconds**; 8-up sticker sheet size or credit card size (approximately as fast as 2.1 x 3.4 inches) in 34 seconds** and greeting card size (approximately 4 x 8 inches) in 78 seconds**.

PictBridge Power
The model CP600 printer joins the recently announced CP400 printer in supporting all current PictBridge functions and printing protocols. As PictBridge is established as the global industry standard for direct printing from any PictBridge compliant camera to any PictBridge compliant printer regardless of brand, these functions include printing of single images or several selected images, DPOF automatic batch printing, and index printing.

Additionally, the Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 also incorporates all of the advanced PictBridge setup features including print cropping, print quantity selection, date imprinting, paper size selection, choice of bordered or borderless printing and most notably, Layout print (fixed size or N-up) and File Name Print.

In the Layout Print Fixed Size mode, the user can even select a print size smaller than the size paper it is to be printed on. This allows for the addition of text and other enhancements, creation of custom postcards, greeting cards and announcements (up to 4 x 8-inches with the optional paper tray and supplied software templates***) or simply printing for example, a 3 x 5- inch photo on 4 x 6-inch paper or artistically floating an image on a larger field of white.

In the Layout Print N-up mode, the user can print multiple identical or different images on the same piece of paper with the size and layout of each image automatically determined according to the paper size (postcard size, credit card size or greeting card size). The number of N-up images possible is based on the number of images supported by the digital camera and the printer. For example, on the credit card size, a borderless layout of eight copies of the same image is possible.

Finally, in File Name Print mode, the name of the photo file (up to 24 characters) can be printed directly on the photograph or in instances of Layout (N-up) printing with different images can position the file name under the image as one would a caption.

Using PictBridge (as well as the wireless IrDA connection) also allows the CP600 to print a full-area of 4”x8” greeting card size prints without using a computer application program. This means that a whole 4”x8” greeting card size image can more quickly, easily and portably be printed with or without a border.

Canon’s Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 ships with the new increased power rechargeable battery pack; a compact power adapter, and a paper cassette for Postcard size prints. The printer kit also includes drivers and application software that features a variety of templates and clip art to make it easier to create and customize photos for a wide range of uses. The Compact Photo Printer SELPHY CP600 will be in stores beginning in April and carry an estimated street price of $249.99*.
