Creo Inc.'s big news in the runup to this year's PMA show was that the company is in the final stages of acquisition by imaging giant Kodak, in a deal valued at some $980 million.

Creo's board has recommended the acquisition to shareholders, and the deal looks set to go ahead - meshing the company's strengths in digital pre-press products and its commercial printing customer base with Kodak's own (already rather impressive) portfolio of digital imaging-related products and services.

The Creo booth showed large posters created from scans made using the company's scanners and workflow software, and demonstrated Creo's iQsmart3 / EverSmart Supreme II professional scanners. We have to say, these things look very impressive in person - the press photos just don't do them justice... The company also demonstrated the latest iteration of its oXYgen scanning software, with a "Scan Once, Output Many" workflow and 16-bit raw file storage. In essence, the software allows you to make one scan, and then repurpose it for different workflows without needing to rescan the source image. Both Mac OS X and Windows versions are available.

Creo's products were also highlighted separately on HP's booth.
