A press release from Canon USA today unveils the stylish new PowerShot SD30 Digital ELPH digicam.

Following in the footsteps of the PowerShot SD10 and SD20, the new SD30 features the same five megapixel resolution as the SD20, but with a new LCD display, lens and radically overhauled styling. The SD30 is also the first Canon digital camera since the PowerShot 600 was announced nine years ago that will come bundled with a docking station. As with most docks from competitors, the SD30's dock will offer USB and video out connectivity, and will recharge the camera's Lithium Ion battery.

The SD30's lens is a 2.4x optical zoom, rather than the fixed focal length lens of the SD10 and SD20. The new LCD display is a 1.8"-type, with a 44% greater viewing area than the SD10 and SD20's 1.5" displays. These changes have necessitated an increase in the camera's body size; the SD30 is 0.2 inches wider and deeper than the SD10 and SD20, and 0.1 inches higher. Camera weight has also increased slightly, to 3.7 ounces. The Canon PowerShot SD30 will ship in mid-September at a price of $399 including a wireless remote to control image downloading, printing, and playback, a premium of $50 over the pricing of the SD20. Four colors will be offered; Tuxedo Black, Rock Star Red, Glamor Gold, and Vivacious Violet. The official press release can be found in another news item.
